I think this is 100% up to the mom/family considering doula support. Of course I think doulas should be at most births, but it is fully dependent on what you want to get out of your birth. If you want to chat more about this without the commitment, fill out my inquiry form and we can chat!
I currently support births in all locations (home, birth center, and hospital). I find that support does not discriminate based on location. I will be there for you wherever you desire to birth!
The earlier the better! Some doulas may have limited availability so it is good to contact them sooner rather than later to ensure they are available around your due date. There is no "perfect" timing when hiring a doula. The earlier you hire, the more time you will be able to spend getting to know them and building that bond and trusting relationship. I have been hired as early as before the first OB appointment, and as late as 7 months pregnant. As long as I am available, I can be there to support you!
A midwife provides medical care - blood pressure, desired cervical checks, delivering baby, etc. A doula provides non-medical support—things like comfort techniques, birth education, and emotional encouragement. We work beautifully together.
I want to know the truth!
That no one ever told you... until you met me of course!
